Side Story 4: The Fall Of Biqiril (Part 4)

Entry 10. AY2.1

Sorted. The leak is sorted. Jakith was such a promising mind, but it seems that he had been a traitor from the get go. On the bright side I discovered three things from his betrayal. First, I am extremely driven when angry. I made an entirely new array in a single night, happy new years by the way. Second, Qema was stealing from me simply because he considered the first month a loss. Why is he so competitive? Why even make this a competition? Third and finally, I worked out my issue with mana. You can detect differences in a person's mana reservoir based on where they are from. In theory I could make an array to detect that difference. The array soldiers are a go again!

I forgot to say how I found Jakith didn't I? I think it was pretty smart to be honest. I made an array that can simply tell when someone is lying or thinks they are lying at least. It cannot tell the absolute truth, but I strung around a thousand array points together and made a stone that heats up when someone thinks they are lying. It's rather impressive, and the General will love it. I am going to hoard it for a rainy day though, I simply have too many things to present otherwise.

Entry 11. AY2.40

Oh how the last month has been bliss. I asked Eynan if she was willing to go for drinks with me in the local parlour after hours and she said she was willing! I have not been more over the moon since she first told me her name. It has been a month of absolute heaven, though my work has suffered for it. Say what you want about the ‘best and brightest’ that they have given me, but damn these boys are stupid. Not one of them can manage to work a simple hundred point array. There's word of a new batch of workers coming to Aledia within fifteen days, so perhaps the staff will improve then. With the loss of Jakith, I am two men behind Qema so I will hopefully gain some more workers. That is as long as they aren't subverted again.

I haven't been completely idle over the last month, despite my reduced efforts, however. It turns out that detection is not easy to pull off with just the eighteen symbols I have to play with. I had to double up look symbols to get it working and only through a string of true and false symbols did I manage to specify more. However I may have made a new language for transferral of data. Using only the true and false symbols you can send ridiculous amounts of information. I'm calling the language TFLang at the moment, but if I come up with a better name I will use that. TFLang is a bit... simple, honestly.

Entry 12. AY2.80

The work on the array soldier has stopped for the moment. I've hit another wall, but what can I say? The TFLang is too... long for me to be able to use it for everything. I need to make another language to relate the TFLang to the world. Give it time and I will have it. Durara wasn't built in a day after all.

Despite my feelings of wanting to spend my every waking moment with Eynan, I have still managed to do something incredible and make a bow that enchants any arrow it fires with a single use array. The arrow turns to dust after it fires because it is the battery. Pretty smart, huh? Well, I would say that if it was a new idea, but these new arrows specifically have a special property that I think I discovered. They can make anyone hit with them see their friends as enemies and enemies as friends. It only lasts for thirty seconds, but the berserker arrows seem to have incredible potential.

Oh yeah! I was going to mention how the recruitment went. Well I got two more members than Qema, thanks to Jakith. One of them, Owain, I am intrigued by. He claims to know a man who is a null, someone unaffected by magic or mana in general, and tested a lot of different things on him, culminating in a paper he wrote on the possibility of there being a third element to the universe that could be manipulated, other than mana and spirit of course. The idea is beyond intriguing.

Entry 13. AY2.81

I found it! With the help of Eynan of course. This anti-mana is something that is apparently used in Avalon, something called Gi. There is very little mentioned about the nature of Gi, other than it is sometimes called ‘past life potential’. I don't really understand but using it as an essence to enhance yourself makes any mana that touches you turn to dust. The side effect seems to be that you heal slower as your body cannot use the mana in the air to repair itself. Without replenishing the Gi in your body you seem to just die, which makes me assume that nulls are only rare because they die so easily from disease.

This night was only made better by my time with Eynan. She was wonderful, and incredibly helpful to me in my search for the information. The system that the books in the Library are stored in is a bit obscure, so without her I would have had no idea where to look. She’s a real godsend.

I might see if she wants to pursue a romantic relationship with me, but I am rather awkward when it comes to her. Never other women, but her? She’s something special.
